Yuma's Best Fried Chicken

Yuma's Best Fried Chicken

You are about to read a list of fried chicken places, but let me be clear: I ate a lot of other food in Yuma too, and I regret nothing. This quest started at a breakfast joint with a fire omelette and ended with my jeans filing a formal complaint. You will find everything here, from a spot that greets you like a returning war hero to a barbecue joint that smells like a convention of smoke, and at least one place that served me salty, inedible garbage. I am a professional, so I ate it anyway. The only thing you need to know is that Dave's is fine, but Tito's is better.

Go eat.

Fuego omelette packs flavor
Kelly’s service truly shines
Fast, friendly breakfast stop
Worth returning for more

I walked into Broken Yolk Cafe expecting breakfast, not a poultry quest. The Fuego omelette tried to start a small fire in my mouth, and I respected that. Kelly refilled my coffee like she was personally offended by empty mugs. Service this fast should be illegal. The chicken on the side was fine, but the real winners were the eggs and the atmosphere. It is a breakfast stop, not a fried chicken shrine. Do not come here expecting a bucket of joy. Come for the omelette and leave happy. I will return, mostly for Kelly.

Amazing aroma draws you in
Fantastic salad with choice meat
Perfect club sandwich with brisket
Delicious pulled pork with coleslaw
Reasonable prices, fun atmosphere

Holy Smokes smells like a barbecue convention threw a party in a parking lot. The aroma dragged me inside. I ordered the club sandwich with brisket, which was perfect, meaning it did not fall apart and the bread held its ground. The salad with choice meat was a surprise. It had actual flavor, not just lettuce shame. Prices are reasonable for the portion. The pulled pork with coleslaw tasted like a hug from a smoky uncle. This is not a fried chicken destination, but it is a meat destination. I ate until my jeans filed a complaint.

HighlightYou are greeted and welcomed by everyone the minute you walk in; the service is the perfect touch.
HighlightThe chips and salsa are phenomenal—probably the best in Yuma.
HighlightHuge food portions—so much leftover that it became our lunch and evening snack the next day, and it was still great the second and third time.
HighlightThe Cadillac Margarita with Tajín on the rim is yummy, and the churros with Bavarian creme are crispy and delicious.
HighlightAuthentic Mexican food with a long-time history in Yuma; grilled chicken burrito and chicken enchilada dinner are standouts.

El Charro Cafe greets you like you are returning from war. Everyone says hello before you even sit down. The chips and salsa are phenomenal, possibly the best in Yuma. I will fight anyone who disagrees. The grilled chicken burrito is a mountain. I got so much leftover that it became my lunch and evening snack the next day, and it still tasted great the third time. The Cadillac Margarita with Tajín on the rim is dangerously drinkable. The churros with Bavarian creme are crispy and sweet. Authentic Mexican food with history. My jeans are tight.

Highlights
Inedible, salty food
Disappointing teriyaki flavor
Poor quality control

Papa-San served me food that was inedible. It was salty, like the chef had a personal vendetta against my kidneys. The teriyaki flavor was disappointing. It tasted like soy sauce and regret. Quality control is a foreign concept here. I took one bite and stopped. That never happens because I am a professional. The chicken was dry and the sauce did nothing to help. This place exists, but I do not know why. Do not eat here. Save your taste buds. I will not be returning.

Free slider day
Packed but fast
Friendly service
Tasty 2-piece combo

Dave's Hot Chicken had a free slider day, so I showed up like a starving raccoon. The place was packed, but the line moved fast. Friendly service, which is rare when people are hungry and angry. I ordered the two-piece combo and it tasted solid. The chicken was crispy and the heat level was real. The slider was free, so the value was unbeatable. It is a chain, but it knows what it is doing. If you want a quick fix, this works. Just do not expect a religious experience.

Perfectly cooked, genuinely hot

Great portions, solid presentation
Seasonal spot worth chasing
Better than Dave’s, no joke

Tito's Hot Chicken is better than Dave's, and I said it. The chicken is perfectly cooked and genuinely hot, not just spicy for show. Tito's sauce steals the entire show. It is tangy, creamy, and has a kick that sneaks up on you like a tiny fist. Portions are great, and the presentation does not look like a crime scene. This is a seasonal spot, so you have to chase it. I will. This is the kind of fried chicken that makes you ignore your phone. No joke.

Juicy chicken, fresh fries
Sauces absolutely on point
Great Uber Eats deals
Worth ordering again

Slim Chickens delivered via Uber Eats, and the chicken still showed up juicy. That is a miracle. The fries were fresh, which is rare for delivery. The sauces are absolutely on point. I tried like four of them and each one deserved a medal. The deals on Uber Eats made the whole thing feel like a steal. I ordered again the next week. That never happens. The chicken has a good crunch and the inside stays moist. This is worth your money and your time.

Habibi Mediterranean Grill is not a fried chicken place, but I visited anyway because my quest demands it. The lamb kebab was flavorful and tender. The rice was delicious, and I do not usually care about rice. The salad and hummus were incredibly flavorful, like they put actual effort into it. Service was friendly, and the staff seemed happy I was there. It was exactly what I was craving, even though I did not know I was craving it. I will be coming back for more. My chicken quest will survive one detour.

Load Em Up Fries

Load Em Up Fries
Highlights
Garlic butter steak fries
Mac and Philly combo
Surf and turf deliciousness
On-point customer service
Pizza fries family favorite

Load Em Up Fries is a place where the fries are the main event, and the chicken is a guest star. I got the garlic butter steak fries, which were dangerously good. The Mac and Philly combo is a heart attack on a tray, and I mean that as a compliment. The surf and turf had a little bit of everything, and it was delicious. Customer service was on point. The pizza fries are a family favorite, and I can see why. This is not fine dining, but it is fine eating.

Valeri’s warm, helpful service
Fries crunch like applause
Chicken juicy, skin risky
Clean tables are a gamble
Order speed: bring a book

Church's Texas Chicken is a gamble. Valeri gave me the warmest greeting I have had in a fast food joint. Her service alone deserves a raise. The fries crunch like applause, which is a great sound. The chicken is juicy, but the skin is risky. It can be either perfect or a soggy mess. Clean tables are a coin flip. One time I sat down and the table was sticky. Another time it was spotless. The order speed is slow, so bring a book. You will read half of it before your food arrives.

Rhonda’s service was impeccable
Staff treats service dogs kindly
Smash burger and chicken shine
Molly makes repeat visits worth it
Six visits say it all

Bubba's 33 has seen me six times, which is more than I can say for most of my relationships. Rhonda remembers my order and my dog, and she treats both with equal respect. The service dog got a water bowl without being asked. That is class. The smash burger is good, but the chicken is the actual star. It comes out juicy with a proper crust. Molly makes the second, third, and fourth visits worth it. She is part of the reason my car knows the route by heart. This is a reliable spot.

Highlights
Whole bird, juicy and tender
Friendly, quick service
Local, no-frills family spot
Reasonable prices for chicken
Worth a second try elsewhere

Pollos El Correteado is a local, no-frills family operation. The whole bird came out juicy and tender, which is rare. Chicken that dry is a crime, and this place is innocent. Service is friendly and quick, like they know you are hungry and do not want to waste your time. Prices are fair for a full chicken. The downside is the seating situation, which is more of a vibe than a comfort. I would drive across town for this again. Worth a second try if the first one goes sideways.
