The Absolute Best Fried Chicken in Frederick

The Absolute Best Fried Chicken in Frederick

I went looking for fried chicken in Frederick and ended up eating a burger, a lobster tail, a bowl of pho, and a slice of strawberry pie. That should tell you something about this town’s loyalty to its own cravings.

The list swings from a shrine to roast beef where the chicken is an afterthought to a tiny spot whose bird is worth a 70-mile bike ride, which I did not take. Ekiben’s sauce will ruin you for all other sauces.

Even the bad Roy Rogers made the cut, because you need to know where not to go. Here’s the whole crispy, confusing truth.

Highlights
Unique burgers, not chicken
No fried chicken options
Excellent burger quality
House-made sauces shine
Reasonable prices and portions

I went to Backslash Burger looking for fried chicken and found a wall of burgers instead. That is on me. The menu is a monument to beef, not bird. But I ate a burger anyway because I was hungry and stubborn. It was excellent. The house-made sauces did real work, and the portions made sense for the price. If you want fried chicken, this is not your place. If you want a burger that makes you forget you were hunting poultry, this is your place. I left full and slightly confused about my own mission. That counts for something.

Perfectly done lobster tail
Friendly, attentive service

Dutch's Daughter has no fried chicken, but I did not care once the crab soup hit the table. That soup is savory in a way that feels personal. The salad came with ranch that tasted like someone actually cared about ranch. Then the filet showed up cooked exactly right, and the lobster tail followed like a loyal sidekick. The service was friendly without hovering. I sat there thinking about how I came for chicken and stayed for everything else. This is a place for a proper meal, not a crispy craving. I forgave the lack of poultry almost immediately.

Quiet, efficient service

Roy Rogers is fast food royalty because of roast beef, not chicken. I ordered the beef and felt no regret. The staff wore masks fully, which I appreciated, and they wiped down tables like they meant it. The place was quiet and efficient, almost serene for fast food. My sandwich was solid, salty, and exactly what I needed. I did not try the chicken because the menu practically whispers beef. You go here for the roast beef. You stay because the whole operation runs smooth. It is not a fried chicken destination, but it is a reliable stop when you want something hot and easy.

Branzzino is the masterpiece

7th Sister does not do fried chicken, but the happy hour sliders shine like little greasy diamonds. I had a martini that could wake the dead, and the bartender knew exactly when to top it off. The oysters were fresh, and the risotto impressed me more than I expected. Then the branzzino arrived and stole the whole show. That fish is the masterpiece. I forgot about chicken entirely. The vibe is upscale but not stuffy, and the service stays friendly even when the place fills up. Go here for drinks and seafood, not poultry. Your taste buds will adapt quickly.

Friendly, fast, highly recommended

Aloha Krab surprised me because I walked in expecting seafood and left thinking about the buffet. The service was great and the food blew past my expectations. Sunday spread goes all out, and I mean all out. I loaded my plate twice, maybe three times. I did not see fried chicken, but I did not hunt for it either. Everything tasted fresh and hot. The staff moved fast and stayed friendly even when the line got long. This is the best buffet in Frederick, hands down. If you want fried chicken, you might find something close, but honestly the crab and sides own the room.

Worth a 70-mile bike ride

Ekiben has fried chicken that made me want to cry in a good way. The chicken is juicy, balanced, and the signature sauce is unforgettable. It hits sweet, spicy, tangy, and then a pickle cuts through the richness like a tiny sour ninja. Every dish I tried left a memory. I heard someone say it is worth a 70-mile bike ride, and after eating there, I believe them. I did not bike, but I would consider learning. The place is small and busy, but the food does all the talking. This is the fried chicken you dream about. Go.

Bojangles delivers fried chicken that stays hot and juicy every single time. I have been multiple times because consistency matters. The Cajun fries pack a flavorful kick that makes regular fries feel boring. The dining room was spotless, and the staff seemed genuinely happy. The manager came out and checked on things, which surprised me. That kind of care shows up in the food. This place is a family favorite for a reason. The chicken is fresh, the service is fast, and the whole experience feels reliable. If you want no surprises and all flavor, this is your joint.

Service good, food stellar

Orchard Restaurant does not do classic fried chicken, but the pesto chicken sandwich slaps harder than most crispy things I have tried. The grilled chicken comes with a perfect curry that made me pause mid-bite. The creamy garlic dip is a wow, and I used it on everything. The cafe feels upscale but comfortable, good for dates or solo eating. Service was good, and the food was stellar. I came for chicken and left planning my next visit for the curry alone. If you skip the fryer and go grilled, you will not miss the crunch. Trust me.

Sanctuary Modern Kitchen serves tenders that are perfectly salted and delicious. I do not say that lightly. The staff is kind, and the speed is ridiculous. I ordered and blinked, and food appeared. The strawberry pie deserves its own main course slot, and I mean that as a compliment. They also do gluten-free food that just tastes good, not like a compromise. They have hot options and freezer options, so you can stock up. I left full and happy. No fried chicken drama here. Just good tenders, great pie, and service that respects your time. That is rare.

Roy Rogers on this side of town has chicken hot from the oil, and I mean hot. The service outruns your coffee, which is a talent. The place is spotless and stupidly good for fast food. Staff stayed patient and happy even when I asked for extra napkins twice. The chicken had a good crunch and stayed juicy inside. I made the extra trip and did not regret it. This location beats the other one easily. If you want fast food fried chicken that does not feel like a mistake, come here. It is worth the drive.

PHO 52 does not have fried chicken, but the pork bun and spring rolls are solid. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere stays quiet, perfect for a relaxed lunch. The pho is great, and the iced coffee hits hard. Family friendly and plain friendly, which I appreciate. I looked at the non-pho menu and found options that do not feel like afterthoughts. No fried chicken here, but if you want soup and rolls, this place delivers. I left full and calm. Sometimes you do not need crunch. Sometimes you need broth.

Avoid the Gold Rush sandwich
Salty fish, rock-hard rings
Twenty-minute wait is real
Golden Mile location better
Fast food, not worth it

Roy Rogers at this location is a problem. I tried the Gold Rush sandwich and regretted it immediately. The fish was salty, and the onion rings were rock-hard. The twenty-minute wait felt real, like time actually slowed down. I have been to the Golden Mile location, and it is better. This one is fast food that misses the point. The chicken might be fine, but I did not trust it after the sandwich. Service was slow and the food was cold. I will not come back here. Skip it.
